Google Sitemaps (aka Google Webmaster Tools) is a great system for keeping track of google performance on your site.
Which is why I just had to laugh, when one weekend, as I was checking my stats, I was greeted with this:
Google crawled my site in 1969!
Google Webmaster tools is a great service, it helps you keep track of what keywords your site is occuring (and in what position). It also lets you know of any errors Google finds crawling your site, and provide a sitemap so that google can best figure out how to crawl your pages.
If you’re a webmaster you might also want to checkout Yahoo Site Explorer, which is Yahoo’s equivlent to Google’s sitemaps
